MODIS Satelites - Near Realtime Images

Did something in the world just peak your geographic interest? Head on over to MODIS Rapid Response to see high-res satellite photos of the entire world from the last few days.

A quick way to get high res images of our earth in the last few days.  This can be a valuable tool for reporting current events with exciting imagery.  When Hurricane Katrina rolled in we used images from here to quickly develop content for Science Buzz within hours.

From the site's own description:

"This page contains a number of image subsets that are automatically generated in near-real-time for various applications users. Most subsets are available as true-color images. Some additional band combinations may be be available for specific applications. Geographic areas can be selected from the maps or from the list below. For each geographic area the archive imagery is available online."

Interesting--how does one integrate this data?

Found this in the FAQ:

But didn't seem to have any reference to an API, per se. When you were using for Katrina, did you guys do manaual updates?
